code P0430

That code is for your bank 2 catalytic converter being inefficient. If your car is a 2002, take it the dealer and have them replace the converter for free. If the car is a 2001 or older, you're going to have to replace the converter.

Unless you have to take a sniffer test, you could just ignore it, and if you have an OBD scan test you could just get it tuned out. The other option would be to replace the cat.

2. It will only cost him money. The converter replacement will be FREE!
jaysan - GM extended the warranty coverage on catalytic converters on the 2000-2002 LS1 Camaro/Firebird to 10 years or 120K miles, whichever occurs first. As long as your car wasn't bought in late 2001, you should still be covered. Contact your local GM dealer about the in-service date on your car. If it went into service after Oct 28 2001, it will be covered free of charge.

well i had the same code about 3 years ago and it was because the rear O2 sensor was bad. the car passed the sniffer, but because of the code it failed. replaced it and the code went away. a fluke? maybe. just my experience.

Do a little research on how oxygen sensors work, how catalysts work, and how the catalyst monitoring system works. I'm not typing a book for you. The circumstances of the failure to the catalyst monitor would have to be so perfect that it is impossible to happen by chance.
