You don't need to buy any wires at all, unless your stock ones are shot or very high mileage. The stock wires are perfectly fine for all but the most wild applications.

If yours are just worn/damaged/super high mileage, then you can replace them with pretty much any brand you want and the performance will be equally as good.

I use MSD Super Conductor (Red is cheaper than Black). They even come with a cylinder labeling tool. Every little bit helps.

I went with the Black MSD Super Conductor wires. My stocks only had 97k on them and looked fine but I figured **** if I'm already doing the plugs might as well just swap out the wires for that extra reassurance lol

Only if they are damaged.

There's not a wire made on the market anywhere that will improve performance or gas mileage....or anything....on a bone stock engine or an engine upwards of 550-600 RWHP. When you start making BIG power or forced induction, etc....then it makes a little difference. The factory wires are all you need. Don't believe the bullshit about wires gaining 15-20 HP...its horseshit.

Exactly. You won't even get a little bit of a gain from aftermarket wires, unless your stock wires are worn/damaged.

If you had an old HEI or points ignition, using just one coil to fire all 8 cylinders, sending the voltage over traditional full length 7mm factory wires, then you might see some sort of improvement with lower resistance/better insulated aftermarket wires on a stock or moderate setup.

On the other hand, a stock LS1 ignition system (with stock wires and coils) leaves almost nothing on the table. Aftermarket coils are pointless, and so are aftermarket wires (unless you just need new wires anyway).

Is it true that long tubes eat through the stock wires?

Only if the plug boots are touching the headers.

MSD wires have bendable boots though to help in header clearance if needed, OEM style do not.

msd wires are great with ls1s. on all the older cars ive had the boots would crumble apart and arc like crazy after about 5-10k miles. yes longtubes do eat through wires because of the heat.
