Default Power steering pump replacement - OEM/Aftermarket?

Seems like my power steering unit is going bad. It is leaking and making noises even with a full/filled reservoir.

Any suggestions on what I should replace it with. Either OEM or aftermarket and where is the best place to get one?

thanks.

I echo this sentiment. You never know where a rebuilt core has been...

I sent my original pump to TurnOne and asked them to do a stock rebuild on it. (Their site lists performance modified models, but they did a stock rebuild for me on request.) Probably a little bit more expensive than going to the store, but its fabulous and I know where the part has been. I also had them add a billet pully to enable me to install the pump without a pulley puller. Its a nice little luxury.

I bought a pump from TurnOne with the billet pulley. I also installed a power steering fluid cooler. The pump works great, fluid temps are low, and there's not really much of a difference in low-speed steering effort. I highly recommend them.

Y - Got to be careful which way one goes with TurnOne. The performance models may not be so great for a lot of city driving.

There's barely an increase in low-speed steering effort. As long as you're not the proverbial 98-pound weakling, it won't be a problem.

i have seen a guy replace a power steering pump 3 times because aftermarket is junk!

he eventually went with a gm unit and had zero problems!

I put a reman duralast pump from autozone on mine and it's whisper quiet and sealed tight for the 400 miles it has been on. My factory pump was trashed because the power steering cooler in the upper radiator hose failed and howled like a super charger so I flushed the whole system out when installing the new pump. I figured for $45 and 40 minutes of my time, it was worth a shot. When it comes down to it, the power steering pump is just a simple hydraulic pump which doesn't take much to reman.

Unfortunately it is impossible to tell if that is out of the norm or not since people who are happy and have no problems rarely post about it, while people are always quick to tell you when something went wrong. This is why I thought I'd share my experience with having good luck so far.

If anything the special TurnOne pulley (extra charge) makes the whole deal issue free.

Another vote for Turn one! Plus with their pulley it's so much easier to remove/install.
