Default steering column

well im supposed to be taking my 01 camaro to my friends shop to have him look at my column since its loose, incase worst comes to worst, are all 98-02 fbody colums the same? or are camaro and firebirds diff or are v6 diff from v8? or are there diff by the year?

I think in 2000 they added the radio controls so that makes the wiring different from the 98-99. Mechanically I think they are all the same.

Take the two philips screws out of the kickpanels....then tighten the two bolts that hold the steering column in....thats it.....

Its that simple?? mine pulls down when you have your hand on top is this the cause??

mine pulles to the left if u pull down on it????

how do u fix tht? i was told u gotta take the air bag out and tighten the torque bolts is tht true?

are u serious? i dont think thats going to be it because its not lose from th bottom, its lose from the middle

Well...if the two bolts get loose over time....the column will drop down more and more. It will move back upward if lifted upward. But it will also move side to side as those bolts get loose.

anyways, basically its not that simple since its loose from where the tilt is at, everything below the tilt it tight.

Thats cool...I'd have to see it. I've just had a few friends over the years complain of their steering columns bouncing up and down while driving.....it was just those two bolts. 4 minute fix.

You seem to have something else going on.....

i have a 2000 ss doing same thing i believe its in the tilt im gonna operate this weekend ive done the repair to a older gta for a friend wasnt that bad of a job just time consuming .

A column is pretty cheap on Ebay. Changing them out is simple as long as youhave the correct wiring, ie: radio controls or not.

on a scale from 1 to 10 how hard is it? lol

yup! mine too! we should make a hatorator make something like this a sticky to help all of us with this fucked up issue that nobody knows what to do about... seems like a lot of people have the same issue

I told you what to do about it. Change your steering column. Use the Search Button and find your answer, That is what I did when I needed an answer. All of the information is here. Get off your *** and look for it!!!!

honestly every single time i use the search button on this site it NEVER works.... ive googled so much crap bout columns i need to clear my history on my macbook.... lol trust me if i could find something i wouldnt be asking here
