i'm about to change my knock sensors also and I've read that if you don't use AC delco then they'll go bad extremely quickly

I agree I used autozone knock sensors. And within a few days I was popping the intake back off to replace with ac delco. No problems since

Check your knock sensor harness for wear too, and be sure the plugs seat good down on the sensors when you plug them back in

What everyone else has said about the cheep KS from auto zone is true. I had the same issue, then I swapped them for the AC Delco ones and had no issues since. Also, to keep them from rusting you may want to use some RTV on the plastic covers to keep them from getting any more moisture in there, it's worked for me so far.

if you go back and replace the sensors again, use high temp rtv silicone to seal up the rubber plugs. This will keep moisture out, and help keep the new ones running well.

I actually just had the knock sensor code pop up on my car a few days ago as well.

Is replacing both sensors, harness, & doing the RTV around the sensors the best way to go to cover all the bases when doing the repair?

Do '98 cars need to go with the '99-'02 sensors (GM Part No. 10456603) & harness? (GM Part No. 12601822)

Yes, replace both sensors and use rtv on the rubber plug sealing surface. I didn't do the harness, but mine was in ok shape. If you're in there, might as well do the harness if you can get it for a good price thoug.

I don't know about the part numbers .

This comes up as replacement for 1998-2002 knock sensors:

ACDELCO Part # 2133521
Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 10456603, 12589867, 213362

I replaced mine last week and I still have the code. It comes on after the cars second start up... I can literally drive 50-100 miles without the code reappearing, but I can't even get out of my neighborhood (and I am the second to last house to the road!!!) without the code going back on.

Sadly trying to beat a storm we ended up snapping off the OPSU and ran over to AA to pick up a new one while the RTV sat on the freshly installed sensors... Which I question is where the code may be reappearing from.

Is it possible that shifting around the valley cover with the knock sensors bolted and wired down could possibly jar the connection loose?

P.S- A swivel set of sockets makes this a BREEEZE!!!! I got to the very last bolt on the drivers side and ran into a snag, my sockets didn't fit back there!! It is a small ledge that hangs over the bolt, I am including a picture just for reference for you guys.

P.P.S- Check Amazon too, I got mine for $38 instead of the rockauto $41. (Talking about the AC/Delco's)

if you havent checked it yet the harness itself could be bad. it may have gotten pinched under the intake or just be bad. theyre about 50 bucks online so it may be worth a shot

Yeah, I ordered a new one and that is the one I used. I still have the stock one and it looks fine, so hopefully this isn't going to be a long process of testing it lol

You can get AC Delco at Autozone, anything electrical is junk in their brand.
