Default Oil pressure question

99 LS1. 93k miles

Cold start oil PSI is around 60 at idle. ( was around 80 degrees here today ) It drops to 40 slowly as the car warms up. After some more driving ( 20 mins give or take ), the PSI drops to 20 ( peg to the left of center ) and for the most part, stays there. Theres a hair of fluctuation with throttle.

If I rev it up to say 3k, the psi jumps back up near 40 and slowly drops again.

I know the factory gauges aren't all that accurate and they like to kind of twitch around. Does this sound accurate to you guys at all? To me, it seems like the needle just likes to get stuck around 20 after a while. Theres no change in the behavior of the car or sound.

I know general rule of thumb is 10psi per 1000rpms so technically, it should never get over 20 with regular driving ( I don't even get to 2500rpm unless I do it on purpose )

The last oil change was done a little over 1000 miles ago, but it was in 2011. ( just noticed the sticker on the windshield )

I've checked the oil a few times in the last couple months and its got the correct amount and the oil still looks new, but now that I know its been a while since the last change, I'll be doing one myself next weekend.

Hopefully someone forgot to remove the sticker, and the car has had a more recent oil change. Definitely change it along with the filter. Keep an eye on the old oil to see if it has anything in it.

I doubt it. The guy I bought it from didn't really know much about cars in general ( He had the car since before 2005 and I knew more about it than he did ). He was the type of person who took the car in to his local shop to perform the regular maintenance when the owners manual says to do it ( which I'm pretty sure says to do an oil change at 90k )

And yea I will definitely be changing the oil+filter asap. It freaked me out really bad when I saw the 2011 tag. At least it didn't just sit the whole time.

Mine TA does have exactly same behavior when it comes to the oil pressure gauge.

Update : Did my oil change today.

Used Mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic and a mobil oil filter. PSI was right above 40 at idle and very close to 60 when moving.

I didn't drive it more than 15 mins or so after the change, but that seems like a obvious improvement over the oil it had in it and the carquest filter.
