Default 4TH Gen Trunk Latch

Before people say wrong thread / search for one, I just want to know if anyone else who drives a 4th gen Camaro /Trans am ... Has or had issues with clicking the button either inside the car or on your remote and the latch still wants to stick no matter how many times you click it. You then have to use the Key and manually open the trunk. Ive used WD-40 and Other and still has issue. Nothing seems to be broken or bent ?

If you have experienced this issue how did you go about fixing it so your remote or button inside car works and you dont have to use the damn key

THANKS !

The hatch weighs too much to pop open the way you're wanting it to. You could try going with a more stout shock setup, but then you run the risk of them being too strong for the mounts.

I do like SSmoken does. Lift while pressing the release button.

My car does this all the time and drives me nuts. Never cared to mess with it though.

My buddy replaced his prop rods or whatever they are called on the rear hatch and it fixed the latching issue. I don't think it's necessarily the latch that is at fault but more those rods that lift the gate up.

You can piggy back another spring onto the existing spring to fix this issue. I forget what size I used but pull back the trunk lining around the latch to see this spring. Run to the home store and pick out a strong looking spring close to the same length. Add it on and you are done.

This is an interesting thread actually... Ive had 7 4th gens over the years ranging from 50 to 230K mile ones, and every single one of them had the same issue. I had to be right beside the trunk and keep pressing the trunk button on the remote at least 2 times before the POS opened...

Another shitty gm ingenuity I guess. Little quirks like that in an fbody (along with many other things) make me want a newer car sometimes

A few things gone bad here. As said earlier, the hatch support rods get weak over time. Just the way it is. Had the same idea to add a spring to make it pop up when pressing said buttons. New hatch supports cured it. Not being a smart *** but, the button for trunk release has "2x" printed on it. Press twice to release with remote key fob. And if I have been informed correctly, you want to be in close proximity of the hatch to deliberately open it with remote. Other wise, while you are running to your car in the dark, in the rain, with a big *** dog chasing you and late for work, you press "a button" to unlock doors and it turns out to be the hatch also. A-drive away with it open. B-go to rear of car and slam hatch shut and say certain words, then get into car and drive away. That's why.

You piggy back it onto the factory spring. Install University has a write up on it.

I did the spring trick about 10 years ago, has always worked flawlessly, one click and the hatch jumps up.

Something else, that I covered in another thread like this one, is to check the latch

see pics and video I don't really feel like explaining it again.
