Default check engine light on- secondary air injector

My check engine light recently came on so I got it checked out at the local auto-store. the code came up for the secondary air injector. I realize this pumps air into the cats, right? How long could I go before I need to replace the secondary air injector? Should I even bother replacing it?

Not sure on your State emission requirements? If you need it to pass, that's the only reason I would replace it.

So I don't even need the damn thing? Might as well just take it out then. No use in extra weight I don't need.

Not unless you need it for emissions inspection where you live. You'll still get a CEL until you get it tuned, but it won't adversely affect anything.

There's a couple guys around that do inspections that tend to look the other way on that kind of thing so I'll be good. That's an easy 10-15 lbs off, don't you think?
