Help solving the long term issue. I have a 01 Silverado 5.3, with a fan clutch. The issue is that it begins to get hot when I'm idling with the ac on. Now I find other forums that have a common issue but there's stay hot when towing or anything else. Mine is only at idle. After 10-15 min, then temp will begin to get hot. To about 3/4 way is as far as I lit it go don't know if it will get higher, but as soon as I raise my idle up to 1,000 or higher the temps comes down. Know I've down the test for the fan clutch, replaced that water pump and thermostat and lots of radiator flushes as long as whole system flushes. Only thing I haven't down is replace the radiator. I've cleaned it out to see if maybe it's plugged but nothing. I don't know if maybe cause it's Arizona and its 116 out. Maybe going to e fans or maybe it's cause the motor has 270,xxx original miles on it. Any input would help!
You might have 270,000 miles of junk in the radiator fins. Would be worth pulling it, flushing it, and cleaning the fins real good. Thermostat might have gone bad. I'm in Mesa and its 116, and mine hold right at 210 all conditions
So it's peaking around 235?
If so, I don't think it's that uncommon...I asked a similar question about a week ago (first summer in AZ) and it didn't sound like I was the only one. A lot of the stock thermostats that read 210 consistently aren't necessarily accurate from what I've heard as well. Apparently after '99, Chevy essentially used "dummy" thermostats that did not fluctuate from ~190-230.

The radiator was replaced at like 70,xxx cause my mom wreck the front end. I'm in Gilbert and other than sitting at idle,it runs great! Imma replace the radiator tomorrow give yall an update
