Question Big problem?!

I went to work this morning, everything ran fine, got home and chilled for a bit. Then went to move my 02 trans am and as soon as it cranked the whole car shut off, no radio, no gauges or anything.. Lights all still work and the door locks function.. What is wrong with it?! I need to try and get it fixed fast!! Battery is fully charged btw, so I'm clueless

Could it be the starter drawing to much amperage and blowing the ignition fuse?

Your starter is directly wired to the battery for positive and directly to the frame for ground. Your starter ignition solenoid wire (purple IIRC) is fused and you'll need to address a wiring diagram and look through all the switches and relays needed to activate that wire (not very high draw compared to the starter though), VATS, shifter/clutch, etc.

Honestly, I'd be looking for a short somewhere. Ignition, IIRC, is referenced to the key being on and not necessarily the starter being on. You'll need a wiring diagram to see exactly what that fuse feeds, then disconnect everything on that circuit and reconnect them one at a time until it pops again. That's how I'd look for the issue.

You have a short in the ignition circuit somewhere. My S10 did this exact thing. Turns out the MAF harness had a direct short, so it kept blowing the ignition fuse. The drive belt had split, cutting the harness

If you look in the fuse and relay panel in the engine bay, there should be a bunch of pink wires. They power the injectors, sensors, etc. one of them is shorting out.

Start by looking for damaged pieces of the harness and seeing if any pink wires have exposed copper.

I would start to check wires around/ going to the starter since starter was replaced.

Grinding from the starter or after it was running?

Yeah, it does it when I fire up, hadn't done it before this morning.
I had just dropped the starter yesterday to fix a loose wire and put it back together and it ran fine until this morning when it did that

What was reason in first place to replace starter? did you replace it with new one? Did it work for some days after replacement ?

I would take the starter down and verify starter and solenoid OK, connect battery ground to starter ground (chassis) and hit the solenoid + with batt+, you will see if the gear working as i should from your starter.

Not sure about how it is on LS1 engines when it comes to measure the distance between flywheel and starter gear.....
