Bad oil leak, rear of engine
02 Z Auto. Buddy brought it over to put a rear main seal in. Car was nasty oily underneath. Used felpro seal 96751, The newer reverse lip seal. I worked it out of the housing and didnt take the rear cover off due to not having the lineup tool to put it back, however I did check the bolts as well as the oil pan . Installed dry exept for the grease that came on it on the inside lip. Re installed everything, started and it is leaking bad
So back on the rack the oil leak is actually running down the corners of the block in the back, Driver side is worse. It is running down where the block and rear cover meet. Any suggestions? Does anything say I can pull the tranny and start it and see where it is coming from? It will drip every 2-3 seconds while running. thanks

Im thinking the oil sender, I have a scope Im gonna try to slide up and look at it tonight. as far as the rear cover, Are they bad about leaking? I didnt think they gave much trouble. If so will I have to have the rear cover line up tool to re install it?

ITs not the rear seal. pulled the trans back off, fired it up and it is leaking at the to of the block, Either the can position sensor oring or the at the to op the rear cover. pulled the intake and oring looks good, pulled the rear cover and it looks good as well. I guess Ill replace both and try it again

Oil pressure sending unit if you didn't already check it - it's on the driver's side behind the intake manifold. It very often gets broken or damaged during intake manifold removal by the brake booster vacuum hose.
If your not dead certain it is coming from the top, I had an oil leak on the rear drivers side - it was the oil pan seal right where the oil filter housing is. The pressurized oil would seep out and drip off the back corner of the oil pan - though it would also shoot oil onto the header at WOT.

OK, This is a pic I found. Where the circle is at the top of the rear cover there is a cavity. The cam sensor goes in through here as well. This was filling up with oil and running down. Replaced the cam sensor oring and the rear cover gasket and problem solved, They both looked ok. Thanks for all the help
