Default Delphi p/n 15354683 DRL socket insert

The way I figure, these things must be on galactic backorder. These are the inserts that are supposed to withstand the heat from the DRL filament. Delphi p/n 12177163 are all over the place, but they don't last. Delphi knows of course as they specifically state to not use it for bulbs that are continuously lit.

Does ANYONE have a source for the 15354683s? Delphi is looking into it, but being the global corporation they are, that could be weeks or months.

We've had other threads on this and I've looked into it.

They exist, however GM hasn't used them lately and we haven't found anyone stocking them. If you want them, you could go in to business and stock them... at $3 a piece and a 1000 unit minimum order from Delphi!

The economics don't add up for Delphi to start up the production line on these at that cost. For the price of one of these high temp sockets, you can buy 5 lifetimes worth of the lower grade plastic ones. For a part that takes just as much time to change as a light bulb and last longer than a few light bulbs, it doesn't make sense to upgrade.

I just keep spare low-grade sockets on hand and pop in a new one as I develop a nice, even char.

For the folks who drive T/A's, I think the consensus is that people should switch to LED's anyway because the lens/housings can't take the heat, either. (The V6 and Formulas don't seem to suffer as bad on the lens issues or the longevity of the socket inserts.)

Thanx. I didn't know LEDs were an option. Are people using some type of load equalizer to make them work with the turn signal or what?

The move to LED's requires the move to an electronic flasher at the same time. (It would probably be best to change the flasher for both the turn signals and the hazards, although the hazard flasher will probably work with LED's just in the front.)

There are a number of threads in the Electronics section on this topic.

Switching to LED's in the front is pretty benign. However, going to LED's all the way around is problematic as issues with other things, like cruise control, start to pop up.

Is there a go-to LED setup? I don't want to get crazy with anything but wouldn't mind some extra light. I think I've only driven three times in this car at night, so spending a ton of money on lights isn't something I want to do.

Try these:
Amazon Amazon
.

They are brighter than the standard incandescent bulb but are not nearly as long as many LED replacement bulbs (the extra length can cause fitment problems). And they're only $17 for the pair.
