Default Sticky situation!

After spring I'll be getting some heads put on my car. Now my car has a little oil leak coming from the oil pan I guess it's a hair line crack in it I used the puddy stuff and it stopped most of it but it's still leaking a little. And by a little I mean I drove 60 miles getting on it occasionally and when I got home I had a little oil spot on the pan maybe the size of quarters. Now when I get my heads installed should I get the oil pan replaced or get an LS6 intake installed. Wanted to get the heads and intake installed at once so I can get it tuned all together then after getting the car back take it to a local shop to get the oil pan replaced. I know that sized oil leak is nothing crazy but it's still a leak.

Are you sure it's the pan itself that's danaged?

Yeah it started leaking then I took it back to the shop I always take it too then they told it is had a hairline crack in the pan they tried to puddy it up as best as they could and I drove it home which is like 60 miles and I had a little oil spot on the pan not even enough to drip on the ground

You could try a JB weld or something similar. Otherwise you'll probably have to buy one

I'll try JB weld but I know I'll have to replace is I just didn't know if I should do it right away or if I'll be safe adding more horsepower with it like that or it'll cause more problems

Keep an eye on it for now and check the dipstick regularly until you get a new pan.

Do you think adding heads and a intake will effect it any? Didn't know if adding more hp would cause it to get worst. I was gonna get it fixed after the got the car back from the heads and intake swap

I don't see how changing the top end will affect how much oil you are losing. If you don't do anything to exacerbate the existing hairline crack during the install then it should continue to lose oil at the same rate it is now. JB weld can work wonders as a band aid fix. A buddy of mine used it on a cracked Honda 929 block and it worked fine until he sold it.

Yeah adding power won't directly cause an issue, but if it's gonna go it's gonna go regardless. You can try the JB weld and see what happens. No guarantees

Yeah they used the JB puddy and it's still leaking a little looks like it's coming from a bolt. So I might just get some and just puddy the hell out of it

You say oil is coming drain plug bolt. Did you replace the gasket when you changed the oil?

Not the drain plug bolt just a bolt from the pan. Had oil pan gasket replaced then 2 months later the oil pan got a crack in it. It's coming from the front bolt on the passnager side

If it's also leaking from the bolt the washer should be replaced most likely. I forgot to do it one time and it started to leak a little

What I'm trying to tell you is it isn't coming from the drain plug at all. It's coming from just the regular oil pan bolt that screws into the block. It's the bolts all the way in the front on the passnager side

Ok I didn't realize that. When you said the bolt I just assumed that's what you were referring to

No question. Fix the pan first. Even if it's a small leak, it's a matter of principal. Performance parts will always take a back seat to having a stable, well sorted vehicle to mod. I'm being funny and exaggerating a bit but I always wanted to used this line. I liken this to people back in the day who bought a rusted out 86 regal for $400...and paid $500 to add neon under it.

Yeah I'm just gonna get it all fixed at once. I found out I can get a brand new oil pan for 140 any day I want so I'll just do it all at once so I can play with her when she's home
