Default Goodbye starter.

So I started my car the other day and heard a really bad rattle. After starting it about 4 times it finally decided to stop turning over at all. So I pulled my starter and this is what I found.....

Many, including me, get the "corvette" (96) starter. It is a gear reduction type, smaller, lighter & cheaper

Yeah and just a heads up plenty of people have broken the ear off the block when something like this happens. I would get the newer style starter with the long bolt on both sides.

It is an LT car. I put another starter in it, and it's still locking that starter up too.

Huh, I thought it was an LS starter for sure. *facepalm myself*

If your new starter is not turning over, I would remove your spark plugs and see if your engine turns over regularly. You might have a leaky injector or blown head gasket that has hydrolocked the engine. I hope you haven't bent anything if that is the case.

There's a good chance it could have been an LS starter. The guy I bought it from wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to these cars.

I don't think the engine is hydrolocked. The used starter I put in started up the first time I cranked it. Then acted like it was locked up again a few hours later. I tapped on it with a hammer and it turned right over again. I'm hoping it's just an issue with using stock starters to try and turn a higher compression engine. I'm gonna put a Corvette starter on it and see it that helps.

Starter from a 99-04 4.3L s10 is a "factory" high torque mini starter. Think I picked up one from my local jobber for $65 bucks at our contract pricing with core exchange.
