Default Antifreeze Question

i flushed my system with prestone flush stuff then flushed it 5 more times and kept getting the rust color water upto the 6th flush the dip pan i was using kept turning the color of the antifreeze green visually but when poured out it was rust color the color never got clearer

by the last flush i figured it was the best i could get and put in prestone dexcool and ran my truck 150 miles between yesterday and today with no issue by the above should i be ok or should i flush the system again till i get it clear?

If you can get a decent price on a new radiator I'd change the radiator and flush again. It's the cheapest thing to do right now besides just let it go and hope nothing clogs any passages.

The only way you can really "flush" the system is to fully drain it. When you drain the radiator, 50% of the coolant is still left behind in the engine. To do a proper flush, go through the factory procedure and open the two drain ***** on the sides of the engine block. (This makes quite a mess - but it will get everything out during your flush.)

The factory procedure is to:
- Drain the radiator
- Remove and drain the overflow tank
- Disconnect the heater core and drain those two lines
- Open up the two coolant galleys on either side of the engine block and drain those (HALF of the coolant lies here!)

This thread helps in finding the two drain plugs on the block: (they area a real PITA) https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...k-coolant.html

At 22yo, that poor radiator is probably a candidate for a replacement.

Unless it's one of the old solid metal ones, the sides are made of plastic that eventually wears out and starts leaking.

For sake of argument. My oem radiator developed a hair line crack fine years ago.

And also, to OP, a complete flush of the whole system would hell if you didn't do that.

Right; but that type of preventative replacement wouldn't impact this flushing issue.
