Default Top dash pad shell or fix my dash pad?

(1994 Z28). I read the how to articles and I glued mine yesterday with pieces of a Cheerios box. I had a crack on the driver side half way up almost spitting it in half. Then a small 1.5” area where the middle defrost vent is. Both areas still seem awfully weak and not sure they will wrap okay and then push down in place without breaking. Not about to drop $300plus down on a new one. Did see a company that sells a shell that goes over mine for a decent price.

What I am asking is how reliable is the glueing method?

Has anyone tried the shell method and how did it workout.

Thanks.
