Default Whining powersteering pump....

Basically, want to eliminate pump lines to the radiator cooler thing. I bought the bypass cooler already to install. If that makes sense to anyone I'd like suggestions how to proceed in regards to additional material I would need. Thank You

It would appear that you need to fabricate a bracket or two to mount your new cooler and then seek new hoses to get it connected. Lowes and Home Depot have an aisle with steel bar stock supplies for your brackets. The low pressure hose is generally quite low pressure and is not too critical except for the correct thread pitch on the connector. But I had a special high pressure hose made at NAPA with the proper connectors and clocking to easily reach my power steering pump - cost was $53 and only a thirty minute wait.

I walked into NAPA with a long piece of coat hanger wire cut to the length I needed with the bends I needed which made it very easy for their hydraulic specialist.

Here's the thread on how to do a bypass cooler, along with the proper type and mounting: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...g-success.html

You can also forget the cooler entirely. (The thread above also has discussion about that and members here have had success with a cooler delete by simply staying on top of P/S fluid flushes.)

The cooler has nothing to do with a whining power steering pump, though... If the pump is whining - it's bad and needs to be rebuilt.

The 'whine' typically is that the pump vanes are scraping the bore of the pump housing. I've added a couple fl. ozs. of GM Dex VI tranny fluid and that reduced the whine by quite a bit but didn't eliminate it. I added an oz of rear end lube to the reservoir and the whine went away. rear end lube with all its' additives is to prevent metal to metal contact in the rear and couple years now, no whine.

the job of the vanes is kinda to scrape against the bore of the inner housing ....centrifugal force pushes the vanes to follow the housing which is not round but more oval...the vanes do wear in a pattern which mimics the bore
barring some damage to the housing bore or vanes I would think the noise is more from the pressure relief valve....my .02

I have installed numerous power steering pumps trying to get rid of the whine to no avail. When I get tired enough of listening to it (again) I have a spare for my C6 that I will fabricate a bracket for and install it. I'm starting to think Camaro power steering pumps are like women, they all whine.

Are you sure it's the pump? The rack can also whine...

I would not do anything else until confirming where the noise comes from. A mechanics stethoscope will get this done for you and they are cheap!
