Replacing Compressor Control Valve on back of compressor
Had ac vacuumed and refilled with specced amount of r13ra and still getting freeze up on evap inside car on long trips.
Wanting to try to change the control valve on back of compressor, I assume I can't do that without having system vacuumed out again first, right? I expect there is r134a pressure behind this valve since some threads here describe it leaking but didn't see anyone describe this repair, so wanted to be sure.
Maybe I'll post a howto thread on this repair if I can do much of it myself.

Did you ever confirm that there is refrigerant pressure behind the control valve? I’m almost certain that there is. I removed mine last year after I evacuated the system and there were a lot of o-rings on the control valve.
I had dye in the system and that's where I noticed mine was leaking. You can buy the Rapid Seal kit Part No. 26736 at your local parts store which has every seal for the air conditioning system.
...but once I get the car back on the road I'm going to have my AC vacuumed out and I am going to try to replace the control valve. Looking at the part now I'm pretty certain there's pressure behind this thing. I bought an entire valve on rock auto, was cheap, had O rings on it already. More soon.
Inexpensive part and way cheaper at RockAuto then your local stores. I should have probably purchased one too but I was being cheap about it and just replaced all the seals in the system. I still have a slight leak which brings me to wannafbody's post: I haven't replaced my schrader valve's so that's something to look into.
