Default Is My Radiator Doomed?

I have a 2000 camaro z28 with an ls1.

Today while doing my oil change I noticed some coolant dripping from the radiator where some hoses were, so I went to tighten the hose clamps and in the process I fucked myself and broke a piece of the radiator off. It leaked very little coolant thankfully, but the hose is completely detached from the radiator. The hose seems to connect to both heads.

Any help would be appreciated because I would love to not remove my whole radiator. Is plastic welding an option?

Sadly, I think your radiator is done. The sides are plastic and the whole unit is pressurized, so it's not a place you can make a low-grade repair.

I would bet that your leak was probably that nipple starting to crack. (So, you might have been going down this route to begin with.) Odd that a hose clamp would suddenly come loose.

That's a shame. The silver lining I guess is that it's reasonably easy to replace, and you can find an LS1 or the slightly thicker LT1 radiator for reasonable prices.

If what you are saying is true, I am assuming that the water pump is just as old as the radiator. If this is fact, I would replace the water pump when you replace the radiator. Generally speaking, a new radiator will have higher pressure than the leaking one, and over time will put extra strain on the water pump. JMHO, don't kill the messenger.

^ Personally, I would not replace the water pump just because the radiator has failed. And I definitely would not recommend hiring an ungulate to perform repairs or diagnostics on any vehicle!
