Default hard starting problem

I have a problem with my 97 WS6. The car almost always starts hard unless you just ran it. I have replaced the opti, plugs, which both were in bad shape but still no change. Can fuel pressure do this or has it done this on these cars? The fuel pump in this car is much louder than any of my other cars and sometimes if I cycle the fuel pump on and off with the key a few times it starts better, not always but sometimes. I also replaced the Fuel filter. When I bought the car it turned out it had a bunch of after market stuff on it so I wonder if it has a fuel pump also.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever had the hard starting problem.

I have the same problem after replacing opti. delayed starts. Sometimes no problem. Seems to not be apparent as much when motor is warmed up.

Mine seems to do that (64k) Supposedly i have a holley 225 in there. That's what the previous owner said. It cranks for a when the car has sat. 5w30 synthetic oil, new fuel filter, that kinda stuff. I find if i turn the car ignition on and listen to the fuel pump run, then it turns off, i can crank it and it will start right away. It's like it has to build up fuel pressure. That's why warm starts seem to start up faster. Does this seem like the same problem?

Well the fuel pump went out on me last week and I replaced it with a 255 today and man oh man does the car run alot better, its like a new car with tons more power. The annoying thing is that it still has the starting problem.

id say for both of you to get fuel pressure gauges and hook them into the valve at the back of the engine and watch your pressures when you try to crank the cars. i think both of you still have fuel delivery problems.

good upgrade is to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator-that is of course if as Snow Dog suggests your fuel pressure readings are off...

I had the same problem. My fuel pressure regulator was leaking to the vacume side and causing the hard start. This was very frustrating because I just installed the adjustable regulator a few months prior.I replaced it and it was like night and day.

Are you getting fuel pressure? Is your gas cap on? Did you notice any missing or stumbling at high rpms before? When was the last time you replaced your spark plugs? Was there any smoke coming from the exhaust before? Have you done a compression test? Checked your oil? Checked to see if your water pump is leaking?

I hate to say it but that really sound like the way one of my optis went out when it was the sensor in there. Pull a plugwire and see if its sparking.
