The one time I put the German Castrol in my motor is when it spun #6. The car had been driven hard, but I won't use it again.

Update. I went to the store today to see if they got any more in. They still had 2 bottles that said made in Germany, and the rest were the bottles marc and I described earlier that were a different covering, said in America, and had nothing about Germany on them. They said the Germany bottles and the ones mentioned had the same SKU number though, so that is all they will be getting, and thus they are the same thing--is this bs or the truth? Thanks!

Crap, I should have read this thread before I changed my oil. I got 6 quarts of the American 0w30 on accident. It wasn't that crazy green color like the german made stuff.

Will changing from the Mobile 1 to the German made Castrol cause any problems? From the searches I did you seem to be the resident oil guru. If the Castrol is as good as you say it is I think I might give it a shot.

Anyone care to sum up the difference in the synthetics from germany? I never knew there was a difference... I always been running the red Mobil 1 15w50... I figured it would be thicker and protect a little better but possibly sacrafice a few HP? How do I tell the german Mobil1 apart?

Someone please school me on the oils.

You should have no problems at all. In fact I know of a few people who were burning a quart of Mobil 1 every 3k and then switched to the German Castrol 0w30 and found they now use 1/4 or less!

Three years ago I ran nothing but Mobil 1 in my vehicles and in all my family member's cars. Now I run nothing but German Castrol in all of them. And the oil analysis results I have gotten with this oil have been excellent. I'm looking forward to seeing my first oil analysis results with this oil in my Corvette early next week (I just bought the Corvette 8 weeks ago, and immediately put GC 0w30 in it and have already driven it almost 5000 miles since then!)

What do you think about the oil I found at Autozone w/ the same SKU as the German version pictured at the beginning. They only have 2 bottles of the for sure real German brand, and the rest are the ones I described earlier.

German Mobil 1 is not sold here, it's German Castrol we're referring to. Mobil 1's 0w40 formula in Europe is identical to the 0w40 sold here though. Europe and Australia get a 5w50 version of Mobil 1 that isn't sold here. You'd be hard pressed to find 0w20, 0w30, 5w30 or 10w30 M1 over there, they are virtually non existant there.

That's the problem with Autozone is that they can't seem to tell the difference between the US made and German made stuff when they order it, since it does supposedly have the same SKU number. You just have to find a store which will order you a case, as the new stuff that will be shipped to them should be the newest stuff. As I mentioned earlier, there is a rumor that this formula (with green oil) is now made in the US. But I would still try to make sure I got the "made in Germany" stuff for now until we can prove that the new stuff is equal to it. So when you find the German stuff, stock up! I've got 56L in my supply right now. It's plentiful up here though, I have no trouble finding it in every Walmart and every Canadian Tire now too.

Would German Castrol 0w30 okay in a 6.0 liter powered work van that's used for heavy hauling and towing a 12,000 lb trailer 20% of the time?It seems kinda thin,but I know you're the expert.Is this oil available for diesels,I have been using Mobil syn since my Duramax was new.TIA

I wouldn't recommend this oil for diesel engines, as they need a specific diesel oil which has a different additive package. For a diesel I recommend Mobil's Delvac 1 5w40.

For a 6.0 gas engine the German 0w30 Castrol would be great, keep in mind that this 0w30 oil is not thinner at operating temp, it's much thicker, it's almost a 40wt oil.

FWIW, I haven't burned any oil at all over the last 4700 miles that this oil has been in my engine.

I don't like the "0" Blend oils. IT'S TOO THIN! It's suppose to run like a 30 wt at temp. When you drain it hot it comes out like water!! For HD use I don't like it. I use 15w-50 AMSOIL. I like the 0w-30 in my wifes Tahoe. Bet then again I don't drive my car in the cold weather.

That is absolutely not true. The 0w30 Castrol has a hot viscosity of 12.2 cst at 100c, which means it is almost a 40 weight oil. Just because it's got the 0w rating does not make it thinner than other 5w30 and 10w30 oils when hot. It just means it flows better on the cold start.
