Default ? About Castrol 0w-30

After searching, it seems that this German blend performs better in oil analysis compared to 0w-40 Mobil 1. I was wondering what the bottles look like--are the German bottles any different from the regular bottles like the black compared to silver for Mobil 1? Is it in just the old Syntec bottles? Thanks!

No problem. I changed my oil today and had an empty bottle laying around so I snapped a few pics.

I had a hard time finding the stuff, I went to like 12 different autozones getting 2 or 3 bottles some places, and none at others...

Happy Hunting

Thanks again. I let you all know how the search goes. If I cannot find it, I will end up w/ the Mobil 1 0w-40 I guess.

I found three different 0w30 bottles at the local Autozone.

- One was marked Energy Conserving, and made in NJ or whatever.

- One was definitely made in Germany, and the correct one.

- The third was a "hybrid" - It looked like the German bottle, but it didn't have the official "Made In Germany" tag on it. It was NOT Energy Conserving.

I had to buy some of these "hybrid" ones, and they were the same funky green color as the regular German made stuff.

You've just spotted some of the very latest stuff then, which I had heard was being made here, but to the same German specs, so it's still good stuff! I'm definitely interested in seeing pics of that newest stuff!!

So are all of the above one in the same then? Is this still one of the best available? Thanks!

No, all of them aren't the same. The two bottom ones are the good ones, but the ones which are made in USA and energy conserving are the wrong ones.

The key is to find the ones which have the good specs on it such as Porsche approved, ACEA A3, BMW Longlife and the MB and VW specs.

Well, then I saw some of the latest a week or so ago. It said "Porche, etc." on the back but didn't say "Made in Germany" so I didn't buy it. It almost fooled me into thinking it was the German made stuff.

The 0w30 Syntec is indeed fully synthetic though, except for the earlier stuff which was made in the USA. But the German stuff and the newest stuff made here is indeed fully synthetic, but the rest of the Syntec lineup is not.

I went out today, and they only had a few bottles of the oil that is pictured above. They had some other 0w-30 that lacked green on the front, and simply said Full Synthetic Motor Oil on the front. ON the back, it lacked the specific ratings like what is seen above, but just said: API Service SL; ILSAC GF-3; ACEA A1-98; Also meets gasoline engine protection requirements of Porsche, BMW, Volvo, and Mercedes Benz. It says Castrol North America, Wayne, NJ; Not for sale outside NA. Is this the bad 0w-30? Thanks! Sorry for no pics, a friend has my camera

Picture 1
Picture 2

Apparently I was a little wrong here... the bottle DOES say, "Made In Germany", just under the 0w30 marking - not the usual spot. I didn't notice that 'til right now.

The front of the bottle is also slightly different. If I remember right, the non-German stuff was even more different - like no green on the front label or something.
