Default Tune up!

Hey guys im debating on whether to rebuild or swap my LT1 for an LS1. But until then I would like to increase the performance some and tune up the LT1 as is. With 110k on the clock I am getting ready to replace the rear main seal and fix this bad oil leak and probably purchase a 160 degree thermostat to get the Z in shape. But I don't think the car has had a good tune up in God knows how long. I purchased it 10k ago and since then I have changed the oil and filter one time. Plugs, wires, optispark and who knows what else may have never been touched. Once the oil leak is conquered I plan on flushing the system and filling it with synthetic and a better filter. And after that comes the tune up. Let me know what is involved and what all should be changed in doing a good tune up. Also throw some good names at me with prices. Thanks

Not to smart, especially since you aren't using synthetic

110k on the clock i would not put synthetic in it. you will spin a bearing quicker anything. Buy a good set of headers. depending on but i go with hookers, kooks, or pacesetters. Underdrive pulleys. go with march or bbk or something like that. cold air intake kandn or moroso or some other brand. there are numerous bolt ons to do that are reuseable whenever you decide to rebuild your motor. stick to the fact that let the motor breath and then let it exhale. cold air intake and hedders and exhaust. then let it spin freely with a underdrive. the rest is things you wont to hold off on till you rebuild your motor really. the more you do to your car the quicker its gonna go boom especially with that mileage on it. basically save some money and go big on a rebuild. but hedders and cai are a must either way you go and install for both is only like 6 hours...any questions feel free to ask

The reason the oil hasn't been changed in 8k is because it has had this leak the majority of the time and i have just been cycling new oil thru it constantly.

LOL some of this makes me laugh sorry

First and formost. How much money do you want to spend? If you get near the $5k range start looking for a LS1

If i did not already have all the parts for my new LT1 I would have put the money into converting my car to a stroker Gen-III

problems with a ls1 are you need....a computer and wiring harness, engine, and transmission. they also use different motor mounts...alot of work to switch them over. build the car make it mean.

LS1s also require you to modify the front frame of the car. Not worth extra work IMO. You will also need a new transmission and wiring harnass as stated before. For 5K just built a 383 or something similar and put down alot more power than the stock LS1.

You will not spin a bearing with synthetic, I put synthetic in my 120k mile Ex-Cop Car Mustang 5.0 and it made a HUGE difference. And that motor never came close to spinning a bearing.

If you couldn't tell I am still learing ALOT and I am very new to all of this. So you are sure you wont spin a bearing? You say it made a huge difference... how so? Can you actually feel the difference?

Synthetic WILL NOT cause you to spin a bearing. I have never heard of that. Synthetic WILL make the oil leaks worse. The detergents in them will break apart the clumps and build up that have stopped leaks, but you engine will be cleaner lol.
