stupid abs inop

abs inop light keeps comin drive it normally, beat around sometimes, the thing once in a while comes on. as im rollin, i shut off the car, then start it up, sometimes the abs light stays on
one time i hit the brakes when the light was on the abs DIDNT work, but only once!
so whats up? whats the prob? any suggestions?

are your front tires the same as rear?
what car is this ?
(if the light for ABS INOP is on... then the ABS shouldn't work.. if it did... then that'd be a problem!)
hav you installed longer wheel studs?
stock rearend?
there are many things that can cause this light to go on... need more info

mine did the same thing(95 monte carlo),pulled the codes,they were- RF motor short to groung,LF motor short to ground, and LR short to ground.In short, my instructor said I needed a new ABS motor.BUT.....At the time,my car would also lose all electricall power sometimes,then cut right back on(did that once on the highway at 70mph!!).Well I fixedthat issue(loose nut on accessory post),and oddly enough,no more abs light.Strange but true.....hey go to autozone and pull the codes and report back.

Yeah, you unplug that third brake light and it will throw the light. Check the wiring, maybe a short in that. Take note if that light is intermittently working.

The ABS system is tied into the 3rd brake light circut. Any short will set a code, however it will always be on and not off and on. To me it sounds like a wheel speed sensor or connector. A shop can track the codes and tell.
