Default Wrong oil?

I meant to buy Mobil 1 5w-30, but accidently got 10w-30. Should I take it back and get 5w-30?

Does anyone here use 10w-30?

You should take it back and get 5W40 or 10W40. Mobile 1 ?W30 is too thin.

i have used 10W-30 since i got my car back in jan 04. I just bought M1 5W-40 which i am switching to from now on. But you'd be ok with the 10W-30.

You're fine... I've always run 5w30 ... vette's w/an LS1 come w/5w30 ... It's NOT too thin... if you have problems burning too much oil then go to a heavier weight (but keep in mind that LS1s burn oil anyways... just some burn more than others)

I only use Mobil 1 10W30 in my LS1. It's a summer only car though, if I drove it in the cold weather I'd use 5W30 during those months.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using 10W30 or 5W30 Mobil 1 in LS1s. Period.

curious question but would you go from 5w-30 to 10w-30? would 10w-30 be better in the summer?

This is exactly what I do with my daily driver (bonneville). Granted, it's not an LS1 but the idea is the same. 5W30 will flow better on a cold start in the cold winter months. But for the summer I prefer the 10W30.

I would still go 5W40, it will flow just fine in the colder weather. Plus you have better protection (Higher film strength) when your beating on her.

I used Valvoline 10w 30 full synthetic. LS1's make noise when running. If it kinda sounds like a sewing machine then you are fine. Piston slap when cold is common too. Piston slap should disappear when warm though.

my experiance with oil in the ls1 is this 5-30 uses it like water.....10-30 not as bad but still uses 1 qt every 2k.....i mixed 3qts 10-30 with 3 qts 15-40 then it used very little.

I would think it's pretty obvious by now that LS1's will thrive with practically any oil you feel like putting in it.

Rule of thumb - Heavier in summer, lighter in winter.
