A short 3/8" ratchet and a variety of extensions helps, including a short "wobble" extension. A universal can be helpful for breaking plugs loose, but I never install with it. Like was said, use anti sieze on the plug threads and dielectric grease in the boots (not on the electrodes).

How in the hell do you get #8 from the Bottom??? On my car (98 SS) the stock K. Member frame is in the way. On my old 89 Formula 350, I was able to get most of them from the Bottom.

I took off all the EGR ****, its like 4 bolts total and it frees up ALOT of room.
After I took EGR off I could reach every wire by hand, the last one on the passenger side I had to reach back and pull the bot off, then loosen it and change it from underneath the car. Im only 16 and my hands arent that big and it was tight for me but working with it for a few minutes I got it. Did all 8 of them in about 2 hours, first time ever changing plugs. Drivers side I got all 4 from the top, passenger side I got the first 3 from the top and the last one how I described above. DEFINITLY not worth paying someone for.

Yea EGR makes it real easy. For the last one from the top pull the wire off the coil pack, then off the plug. It took me about 3-5minutes of pulling with my fingers back in there as hard as I could but the little bastard will come free eventually. Definitly helps if you take it off the coil first before pulling on the wire on the plug. Then jack the car up and there is a opening just big enough to squeeze your hand through, work your socket up in there and get it on the plug, then I used a like..1 1/2" extension and a socket and I got it. That one plug probably took 20 mins all togethor.

Anyone know if those shorty sockets and GM 5 degree open end racheting wrench are worth the 30 bucks an ebay seller is charging? I have 25k on mine and would like to change my plugs but have no way of getting the number 8 plug from underneath. I don't mind spending 30 bucks if it helps.

If you really really try you should be able to get #8 from up top but it will take a while of working your way and fidgeting with a socket, itd be a very tedious process but I think it could be done. If not you could check your local auto parts store and see if they have drive on ramps which work great. ( As long as your not lowered alot)
If you take the coil pack brackets off you can get to #8 from up top easier. Just take off all the EGR and the coil pack brackets and go at it.

#8 is accessible from underneath if you reach up at the rear of exhaust manifold/header, from where trans. mates to engine (i.e. rearward of engine cross-member).

(no need to remove anything other than AIR tubes from manifolds/headers).

The ebay item is a pretty good deal though IMO, too bad I didn't use it.
