I've got two old 5 gallon steel cans. I drain my tranny fluid, oil, brake fluid, and rear end lube into it and take it to the parts store to dump it. I like the OReilleys, but the Advance Auto Parts store takes it, too. With five vehicles, two mowers, a tiller, and a snowblower I can accumulate a lot of stuff during a year.

I keep the can clean and take a paper towel or two with me to wipe up drips. I try to keep it clean and maybe even leave their place a little cleaner than when I started. I wait patiently until someone acknowledges me, and thank them when I leave. They're nice guys there. I even buy parts from them sometimes.

One of the cans is a 5 gallon can that the concrete guys threw away when they used up all the concrete sealer on my new driveway. They were glad not to have one more can to throw away. The other one is a military can that used to hold motor oil. I've been using it for about ten years now.

There are some funny replies in here....
I take mine to advance on my way home from work.

What I would like to know is where to get rid of other fluids!
I have asked around and nobody seems to know....

Brake Fluid, coolant, power steering, etc.

Here in SoCal they have events twice a month where you can take these "hazardous materials". Check with you local environmental agency, I'm sure they have something similar.

The guy at OReilley's told me they take all the petroleum fluids...oil, brake, gear, trans. I put them all in the same can. Don't know about coolant, I get mine changed at a shop.

I do my own windshield washer fluid right now and let it flow out all over the ground, but you never know when the EPA will outlaw it...

Excellent, now all you need is toxic lawn fertilizer and no lesser member of the food chain would dare cross your property.
