Default What oil to use?

I got another noobie question. What is the popular oil to run in the LS1? What weight and what brand? What is a good popular oil filter? I'm thinking about changing the oil this weekend.

Its all prefrence. But here are a few.

Mobile 1 synthetic 5w30, 10W30, 0W40, and any that i have left out (feel free to chime in guys)

Castrol syntic 0W30 (German kind if you can find it) heard a lot good things about it.

A lot of people use the Mobile 1 oil filter some use K&N. Like i said it all comes down to prefrence.

Do a search.

There is enough info to choke on about this topic.

yeah, do a search if you have time, otherwise get mobil 1 0w-40. Its a heavy weight oil for superior protection at high heat/rpms, and it flow extremely well so it will be good in cold temp climates and when the oil is cold from not running. I have used it with great experiences! Thats my reccomendation. Also, get the mobil 1 filter m1-107, its a good filter

if you can find the german castrol 0w30, i would use that for sure.
otherwise stick to mobil 1 0w30/40 5w30 or 10w30

popular filters include, AC delco, PureONE, mobil 1, k&n.
and u may also use the 6.0L truck version of these to hold a little bit more oil.

I think the plan is to put some Mobil 1 5w-30 with a Mobil 1 oil filter.

Mobil 1 5w-30 5qt= $19.99 at walmart. AC delco fitler.....

my thinking behind my filter choice is well... Does K&N build engines? Nope... Does Mobil 1.... nope... does GM.... YUP.... GM builds the best filter for their engines because it can help keep GM from paying out in warr. problems...

Does AC Delco build engines? Nope. GM does not build their own oil filters, they outsource them. AC Delco doesn't even make their own oil filters! They outsource them to different manufacturers (in Canada the AC Delco filters are made by Dana)

Now I'm not sure what weight I should run. If you look at the following thread, and lot of guys are running the Mobil 1 0w-40. Some are using the 5w-30, but some say that the 5w-30 is to thin of an oil.

I will admit, I am not easy on my car. I am pretty hard on it. I don't beat it up, but I am hard on it. Keep in mind I live in Southern California, so our winters are not that bad. Right now, it's 86 degrees outside.

So should I stick with the 5w-30 or go to a thinker running oil? I'm pretty set on running the Mobil 1. Would a 5w-40 oil be good to run in my LS1?

Here is the thread...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-maintenance-repairs/94653-mobil-1-question.html

I just renewed this thread today because it answered all of my questions regarding oil.

Redline 5w30, Amsoil 5w30 or 5w40 (I PM'ed Patman about those weights), or gc 0w30.

Read that thread well, its got amazing info. They're explanations about why Mobil 1 is meh, and about some filter choices too. If you search about 'oil filters' you'll find awesome indepth analysis on filtration/flow... try this to start.

I've been using Redline 5w30 since I bought the car, but now since is majorly expensive(at least I can't get it locally unless I pay 12$/quart), im switching to Amsoil since a member gives discounts on it.. $39 for 6.
