another vibration problem
from about 55mph and up my car vibrates pretty bad. Since my car is mostly stock I can't imagine what it would be. I'm not missing any wheel weights... What part could wear out and cause this? I'd like to narrow down my options before i throw a ton of money at it.
Heres some more specifics:
-poly trans mount
-55 and up but gets worse at around 80
-putting it in neutral at these speeds does not make the vibration go away
- it seems to get worse when braking at these speeds (i can feel it more through the steering wheel) then dissapears as i slow down past 55
thanks for any help!

Most likely tires and/or wheels.
D/S is possible but not the most likely thing. But it is
a possibility like afdude402 said, most likely only if a
universal is bad or something has hit the D/S.
DO NOT think that because the tire tread looks decent
and/or they are even brand new that the tires can't be
at fault.
All my vehicles have seen very high mileage, and I
have had problems straight off from a new tire install.
Just for S and Gs, put it on the rack and fire it up, put it
in gear and have someone watch the rear tires, swap the
fronts to rear and on both sets watch for side-to-side or
up & down movement. (You can do this on a balancer
also but it won't display axle problems).

I switched the front and the rear tires and it made the vibration much less noticable. So I guess the tires are out of balance or out of round. I need new ones anyway. Thanks for the help guys

hey guys i have a bad vibration as well.very bad in 3rd gear and at high rpms put it into 4th and vibration is very small.they told me it can be a bent rim or the ujoints on the ds.i went the tire shop and put 4 new tires on because my old ones ur bad while on the balancer one rim has a small hit on the rear but doesnt make the tire bounce or shake so they told me its most likely the ds joints is this true?or wat about a bent axle?can this cause vibration only at certain speeds and rpms?

a bent axle could probably be seen easily with gwj's method. If that seems fine then try looking at the driveshaft. By that i mean take it to someone that knows what they are doing. good luck

basically i think he means lift the rear off the ground so the rear tires can spin free. Then you can watch them and see if they seem to shake or vibrate as their speed increases. If you dont like the idea of having a car going 80mph while up in the air in your garage like me you could try putting something against the tire and turning it. (again while the rear of the car is lifted) As it turns you can see if the tire moves into or away from the object as you turn it by hand. I would do this first before you have the driveshaft messed with.
