Default Did an oil change today, did I get the right GC oil?

I figured I should try the GC oil since I was burning oil with the Mobil1 5w-30. I went to the local AutoZone and couldn't find the oil, so I went to a larger AutoZone down the street. I looked around and couldn't find the GC 0w-30. Then I found it. Found about 40 bottles of it. I noticed there was a sign posted next to the GC 0w-30 that read as follows (sorry my camera phone wasn't more clear)...

The bottles look a little bit different than the bottles I have seen posted on here before. So I figure the GC 0w-30 I bought was the right stuff? Here are a few pics of the oil. It clearly says "European Formula" on the front and "Made in Germany" on the back.

Everytime you turn away you will realise more and more how much stuff was actually destroyed back then!

You've got German Castrol there for sure, but is the oil inside a greenish color, or more of a normal gold color?

I was at Autozone today and also noticed the new bottles :yup: Makes it super easy to find the German stuff. The bottle in thicker and more narrow now :yup:

Yep, you're fine, it's still good stuff. There aren't as many oil analysis results with it yet, but the ones that have been posted show that there is nothing to fear with the gold formula. I would still recommend it over all other oils.

I used to use Amsoil, I was very happy with it, then switched to factory recommended M1 5w30 and it started ticking, I ran that for the past 5k miles. I found 7 quarts of the GC green stuff tonight & changed to it. Also put on an STP filter ($2.99) b/c I read on here thats a good one, nice price too! I will see if it still ticks in the morning, also the car used to sit at about 30 PSI @ idle, now its at 40psi.

Ques: I run the car hard every now and then (it is a Vette, LOL) How long can I run this GC?

Thanks!

I went to a smaller sized autozone and didn't find the GC 0w-30 there. I went to a larger sized Autozone and found over 40 bottles of the GC 0w-30.

I run mind hard too, and have gone 8000 miles and the oil analysis still came back with very low engine wear. I think 10k or more is possible with this oil.

Thanks a bunch! I will probably run it to 7-8k or so, just to be safe, w/ a filter change, especially since that STP is only $2.99, may as well change it too.

Good news! When I started the Vette up this morning, "The Tick" was totally eliminated! Whoo hoo! Also it idles @ 42 psi!

Patman, how many qts do u put in ur Vette? I used six...

The thing about overfilling the crankcase is that your crankshaft will splash against the oil in the bottom of the pan. If this happens, your rotational momentum will decrease and you'll see a loss in horsepower. In other words, fill it as little as is safe. I use 5.5 in mine and the dipstick shows it to be perfect. Green GC here too BTW. Great stuff.

I use the longer Wicks filter, and run almost 6 full quarts. I also had a tick with M1 5/30. That oil is a little too thin, according to folks smarter than me. I went to M1 5/40, and have been very happy. I'm in Texas, so the cold isn't so much factor.

I have the K&N 2006 filter, so my car took 6 bottles of the GC 0w-30.

Watch out for crap hitting the filter. I ran that one for a while, but after I bent my filter one time, I switched back to the normal one...I didn't want to wreck my oil pan.

Yea, you told me. I'll be careful. My car is still 4x4 status.
