Big Problem!!! Overrev!!!
I just got my car back from the dealer, they replaced the gears in the rear. Took it for a test drive, got a little over enthusiastic and the damn throttle got stuck a complete WOT for like 3sec.
, hit the rev limiter like 5-6 times, before i cut the ignition. I pulled it over and the peddle was completely depressed. I popped the hood and it sprung back open. I checked all the lines and there does not seem to be any reason this should have happened, no binding of any kind that i could find. I am worried that i over revved it for too long, as on initial start-up to verify it was not blown, i heard a low metal clanking in the intake manifold, and it had a rough idle. I gave it minimal gas a few times and the sound completely disappeared, and idle smoothed out. I got her home and let her run for a few minutes to see if the noise was still there or worsening. I have yet to hear it again, and the idle is rock solid.
Could i have blown or spun something?
Anyone that may have an answer Respond Please. I am scared to drive it to work as i work 30min from home.
Oh, I see you have an A4, so I wouldn't think there would be any concern.
Would it make any diff. if i popped it in neutral before cutting it off? Most of it Rev hits were in neutral, the pull on the car almost caused me to wreck, so i had to do that before i turned off the ignition.
. Never had anything like this happen before. Kinda scared the **** outta me. Trending Topics
The reason I ask is I've heard of some folks pulling the
spring off.
Anyone at the dealership doesn't like you? J/K.
I would not be satisfied until I checked every single
bit of the cable/linkage/TB out thoroughly.
I've had that happen on carbureted engines but never
with a throttle body.
My guess is when you banged the rev limiter you
temp. collapsed a lifter or 2, causing the racket.

Good call on the lifter thing, that may very well have been the noise just below the manifold.
