Default fuel filter

Getting ready to change the fuel filter, someone told me instead of relieving pressure at the schrader valve I could pull the fuse for the feul pump start the car to relieve the pressure.Anybody done this or is there any harm doing it that way?

Why bother?

I can't tell you how many times I've changed fuel filters on fuel injected cars without ever "relieving pressure" from the system. It leaks a little fuel when you pull the line off, but it's not like it sprays everywhere....no big deal if you ask me. But I usually do those sort of swaps after the motor is cold, maybe it's a different situation if the motor has just been running?

I have changed hundreds of filters, I have never done anything to releive the pressure. Just put a drain pan under the fuel filter and remove and reinstall new one.

I followed install universitys directions because it was my first time on my new car, and when I bled the schrader valve, it didn't even spray one bit.....maybe ONE small DROP leaked on the rag (when I blinked or something) if anything at all. I figured it would spray everywhere according to all the rags they have you wrap a screwdriver in, but next time I'm just pullin the filter out.

i relieved pressure on my last car and it leaked a little still, from that experience i guess it is bound to leak a little no matter what so its probably not necessary to bleed or relieve the pressure.

Just changed mine a couple of days ago. Simply took off the old one and put a new one on, leaks a little bit. As above stated, just put a a drain pan under the car and your fine. It's one of those jobs that that kinda sucks in that you will end up smelling like a gas station.

No need to do anything but R&R the filter.

This is probably one of the easiest and most straight forward maintenence tasks you can do on these cars. It's just about as simple as putting gas in the car.

If you want to get sprayed with gas. I got that **** in my eye once. I relieve the pressure now.

Pull the fuse & release the pressure from the shranner valve.

Done more filter swaps than I can count. Never once sprayed with gas. It just drips out a little bit when you pull the line, just don't be right under it, no biggie.

EDIT: If the motor was just running, then I could see some pressure still being in the system. But if the motor has been off for a few hours, and fuel actually sprays out of the line under pressure when you pull the filter, you've got one HELL of a fuel system.

how much does it cost to get the fuel filter changed?? i have like no spare time to do this and i think its the reason for an idle issue and bad gas mileage. I have a friend who works at goodyear who changes my oil and all that all the time and since i will be taking my car in to change the oil i was wondering how much I should expect to pay for a new fuel filter.

Question

..10 times I have done this probably--I open gas cap,then........I change the damn filter. Why are you guys doing anything else.??? Why make a purely simple 10 minute job into a "MAJOR OPERATION".???

Does it really even take 10 minutes? Seems more like 5 or less to me.

Don't smoke while doing the filter change.

removing the gas cap will relive pressure in tank not in the fuel system. i've always been told to just open the gas cap and take them off on the camaro and on the DSM dripped alittle gas but thats it. just remember after you do it the car wont start "right" up you will have to let the fuel get back up to the rail
