Oil Pressure at 0 psi??????
I have an 2000 ss, not a daily car, went to start the car and no oil presure?WTF? So I call around for a oil pump and ordered a LS6, someone said change the oil and filter. so I did, then I started the car and it had oil pressure, Car runs great, so I start the car after it cools down and no oil pressure! again WTF, hit the gas and oil pressure returns and is back to normal?
Do I have a bad pump?Bad o-ring? What should I do? I have an extrenal oil pressure guage that reads the same as the stock one. Car runs perfect after you hit the gas, could the spring in the pump be bad?? I'm pulling my hair out.

When you say no oil pressure, you mean 0, zip, nada or very low pressure?? When I changed oil for the first time I put on a Fram oil filter and noticed a marked decrease in oil pressure. After some research I went for a KN oil filter and my pressure just went up.

On Vettes when the sender goes bad it reads very high(analog pegged at 80 and digital at 129). Mine was like that when I bought the car, and then after having a new engine put in it worked for about 3 months and quit yet again.

I think the "Official GM" designation is actually IPC. Instrument Panel Cluster. If an engine actually had "0" oil pressure it would self-destruct after a very few miles which I don't think is happening with the motor. It sounds more like a false "0" reading if the motor is still running and not eating itself alive. A little work with a DVM is in order here. In order for the relief to stick open several things have to happen first. One is that the pressure had to have gone over the rating of the spring that holds the piston in the pump closed. The engine would have to have a restriction or something else like one to cause the pressure to go to Max like that or else the spring was weak or defective. Then the piston had to stick in the open postion because of a burr or a piece of trash wedged in the bore. If your luck is bad enough to have all those domines line up in a straight row don't play the lottery any time soon.

So you are saying you have zero pressure on the mechanical gauge as well??? If so you've got a bad pump, 98's, 99's, and 00 F-bod were bad about this.

I used to have a Grand National that exhibited a similar thing, but it would go down to 5 psi, not zero. I was told by the GN guys that this was common when you had really large main bearing clearances. I never worried about it and the engine was fine. It never got to zero, though.
