Default horrible gas mileage

On my last tank of gas I only got around 230miles which comes out to about 15-16mpg. I usually get around 20, if not higher.

Almost all the miles on this tank were highway miles with a few city miles. I filled up with shell premium so the gas should be fine.

Only recent changes I have done is a belt change. After changing the main belt I threw a code which turned out to be on the maf, probably because it's the aftermarket slp though. I cleared the code and it hasn't came back on.

What could be causing it?

maybe that MAF sensor is reading wrong and making your car run rich, they say not to change the MAF sensor unless your running over 500 HP, or you may have to change the fuel filter or run some fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank. also how heavy of a foot do you have lol???

I drive normal, maybe one or two WOT

are you saying I should run some fuel injector cleaner through the tank or not?

and the maf has been fine since it's been in the car, not sure why it would start acting up all of the sudden

How fast are you going on the highway? I've noticed I get really good mileage when I stay around 65-70mph, anything past 75 and the mileage is a lot worse.

How many miles do you have on the car?

little over 100k on the odometer

keep highway speeds around 65-70

can the maf have that big of an impact on gas mileage?

are my o2 sensors needing replacing?

Do you take care of your basic maintenance, ie spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter? If all of those are taken care of, I would look to the MAF as the problem.

Id start out the cheap way first, check filters, air pressure in tires and switch to a different brand of gas. I had gotten some bad gas mileage with Shell, switch back to Exxon Mobil got back the mileage I had lost. Then if that dont help I would do the usual ,plugs, wires, filter, o2s if they had not replaced yet.

there is something wrong with your car then, you're getting around 11mpg which is horrible for a near stock fbody

I think I fixed my problem. I replaced my idler pulley because it was squeeking and when I took it off it was almost shot, no oil left in the bearing. Maybe that was causing the engine to turn harder? I also cleaned out my kn air filter which was pretty dirty.

I'll report back after this tank

on a recent trip to Tulsa I got 28mpg. I'd say get that foot out of it. By the way that's 340 miles on that tank.

For some reason, some of the fbody cars get shitty city mileage. My car has done over 30mpg highway, but when it comes to city, i was getting around 16 in the USA, but then up here im struggling to get past 13, but this is true city driving, a stoplight every 100ft and stop signs ever 20 ft in any direction. My car is fully tuned, all fluids changed, new o2s, new filters. I did replace my air filter and mileage went up, but by the end of the summer it was on its way down to the same range, not sure if they change from summer to winter gas that quick or what.
