Default Vibration at high speed...come on in.

I've searched on a bunch of threads about this and haven't seen a definitive answer yet. Here are my symptoms:

Vibration felt in the car at 65+mph, gets worse as I go faster
No vibration felt in steering wheel
No pulsing/vibration felt in the brake pedal
Vibration continues if I press in clutch or take it out of gear
Tires are new and were balanced
Stock drivetrain, exhaust, etc.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Thanks in advance for the help...
Joe

Check your driveshaft....you may have lost a weight, dented it or twisted it.

Eds01ss makes a good point.I'd also double check to make sure you haven't lost any wheel weights and check the condition of your U-joints as well.

I've seen this problem several times. Most of the cases I have dealt with have been driveshaft imbalance.

good luck

checking the driveshaft is a good call, also, it my be a good idea to check the tires for mud, dirt and rocks that may have gotten lodged in there, that would also cause vibration.

Driveshaft imbalance, or the tires. I've seen horrible vibration issues caused by a shitty set of tires, or improperly balanced ones.

After checking driveline and u-joints, I'd take another look at the wheel/tire balance. I've had many sets I've had to take back and watch them balance them to get them right. Many people never drive over 65 and don't care. Tell them you need to run at 150 and they need to be exact! Also, many new tires have flat spots and other problems which prevent them from running smooth--like one of my @#%@*#$ $300+ Michelin Pilot Sports.

Thanks guys. All good ideas there. I'll get those tires double checked, and then take a look at the drive shaft.

Any more ideas, keep em coming....

I chased a high speed vibration for years. 2 new driveshafts under warranty and road force balancing of the tires made it almost go away. An LPE driveshaft seemed to help a bit more.

But it never completely went away until I got the clutch & flywheel replaced and the tranny rebuilt. Since all that happened at once, I can't say for sure what particular part was at fault.

thanks man. I just rebuilt my tranny with new flywheel, clutch and pressure plate. Did you change any of the shafts when you rebuilt the tranny?

I had pretty bad vibration at certain speeds, usually 80-90. I mean like the steering wheels felt like a giant vibrator and would make your hands numb, BUT the rear had it's own vibration as well.

Bought new 17x11's and 17x9.5 with new tires and it's completely, aboslutely, gone.

Definitely check your tire/wheel balance. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it can make.

I don't think they were changed, just syncros and one of the shift forks as far as I know - I farmed the job out to a local specialist.

Bent wheel? I don't know who's balancing your wheels, i've seen a few tweaked rims cause endless vibration chasing. Maybe a bent axle but I doubt that. Driveshaft is very possible.
