Cars with 100k+ miles
I currently have a deal on a z28 camaro, its a beautiful car however one thing that scares me is it has 100k miles on the car (it has a new LS1 under the hood) SHould i even bite on this deal or what? The car is in from what i seen in pics, good condition. Im going tomorrow to check it out better and to take it for a ride. Im scared to death about buying any car with over that kinda miles because things start going wrong and im not looking for a money pit. SHould things be fine? What should i look for what should i check? Im going to have the car looked over by a pro mechanic just for ease of heart but i dont want to waste my time if i should turn away now?

if it has a new LS1 under the hood what are you worried about?? if its a new engine then its like brand new as long as he took care of the car then i dont see what would be wrong with it.

there is a guy around me that has 165,000 miles on his motor and no problems yet. as long as it check out and a decent price then go for it. also find out if it is a 01-02 engine as it has a ls6 intake, no biggie if not just saves you a little money down the road if you want to mod.

He was asking 9-10k for it and im not going to offer anything near that because of the miles on the car and because the clutch will need to be replaced and w/e. Im thinking 7,500ish

You need to exercise every little feature on the car. Open every door, hatch, compartment. Work every lock. Work every **** and lever. Work the seat adjustments. Work the mirror adjustments. *Everything*.
Look under the carpets, so far as you can. Check every window/door/trunk seal. Look for any stains or other signs of leaks.
Look for mechanical leaks before you start it. Let it idle a good long time before driving and look for leaks again. Shut it off and let it sit 10 minutes for a "hot soak" and try starting it. Drive it a good long ways, including highway speeds, and look for leaks again.
Listen for any sort of funny noise, both on the cold start, and also after it has been driven.
If it passes all that, probably good to go.

ask him what else he replaced with the swap over. when was the coolent, brakes, rear end and all other fluids changed or flushed. look under the car and see if its leaking any fluids. also check the oil, some people never do, and that would be a good indicator of how well he kept up on maintence. ask 7 then go up to 7.5
good luck
good luck

Everyone here has pretty much covered everything. Much of what will wear with time/mileage is crap that most of us upgrade anyway... Suspension parts, rear ends, clutches, etc... If you can get a good price on it and it passes Gannet's test I'd go for it.
