Im going to replace the cat. its bad getting code p0420 and its rattleing i have a manifold and cat from a stock 2000 ss with 10k miles on it the manifold and cat is good. i dont want to waste money on a gasket if i dont need to.

Well most people do reuse the gasket, if you want to change them, they're like $20 from SDPC, so it's not like it's a crazy amount of $$ (unlike alot of dealer parts)

hmmm, i admit I haven't had my ls1 manifolds off... but the lt1 I know I couldn't re-use them... I guess they might be metal on the ls1? I don't feel like going outside to look.

One thing I have learned working on cars is that exhaust leaks are a bitch and I usually just replace the gasket.

make it easier on your self and just replace the cat you dont have to take the manifold off to replace the cat. Just take the two nuts off at the pipe closest to ypipe the there are 3 nuts that hold the cat to the manifold.just make sure to unplug the 02's you might have to spray the nuts with some PB blaster to free them.

Correct me if I am wrong, aren't the cats covered to 75K miles by the factory by law?

Cali cars are only covered for 7yrs/70,000 for some reason....trust me I tried everything in the book to get the dealer to replace my driver cat with 76,000 on the clock. I called GM and they told me it's because my car is a california car

But yea...all the others are covered 8/80,000

Reuse a stock gasket with a can of copper spray nearby. I have done that several times and it worked out great!
