Anyone using a AC Deloc PF 58 filter. Better read this!
Info from the oil forum......I have always used the AC PF58 oilfilter instead of the short PF44........well, since the introduction of the LS engines in trucks, GM has come up with an improved version, the PF59 with an improved anti drain back valve.
See this link for info and pictures of opened oil filters:

There is no reason to even worry about anti-drainback valves in filters used in the LS1.
Anti-drainback valves are needed when the filter is mounted horizontally such as the Turbo Buick engine. Because the LS1 mounts the filter vertically, oil in the filter cannot escape. Again, the valve serves no purpose whatsoever.

Actually that is not quie correct. First, GM says they especially designed this filter as a longer version of the PF44, for trucks (which the PF 58 is NOT) and secondly the oil in filter does not only drain back because the filter may be mounted horizontal or even upside down as in the LT5 engine, but drain back does also occur when the oil in the oil galleys starts running back after engine shut off. Remember all of the oil galleys in the block are above the filter (except the crankshaft oil pathways) and therefore the oil in them can brain back thru the filter and the oilpump into the oil pan if nothing prevents this and the oil galleys could be dry on start up.

What kind of anti drainback valve does the OEM PF44 have? Just curious.
I think I'll just stick to the Mobil 1 M1-206.

Hey.can't go wrong with the Mobil 1 filter....pricey though......cheapest I could find was $11.49......the PF59 is a true long version of the PF44, the PF58 (although it fits in place of a PF44) is not. The anti drain back valve in the PF44 is the Same as in the PF59.
quote:
Originally posted by 02 SOM WS6:

I recommend the K&N oil filters over the Mobil 1 filters now. The K&N flows a lot more oil, so it's more suited to hard driving than the Mobil 1 is. The Mobil 1 could go into bypass mode much more often. The Bosch premium is also a very good filter too, at half the price of the Mobil 1 and K&N.

Patman,
There's a chamelion T/A for sale locally (Boyertown, PA), in case the bug has bitten you again.
Get us the Bosch part #, I've been buying the Pure 1 filters, and the Bosch sounds like a better filter for around the same price.

I wish I could afford that Chameleon TA, but it's not in the bank account.
The Bosch part number which cross references to the PF59 is the 3423. I don't know the smaller filter number.
For the K&Ns, the small filter is the HP1007, the long one is the HP2006 (notice their numbering system is similar to Mobil 1s, just with an extra zero in the middle)
I got off the phone with Mobil 1 just a short while ago and they tell me both the M1-107 and M1-206 have antidrainback valves. They also quoted efficiency numbers of 98% single pass at 10 microns, and 95% multipass at 10 microns.
The K&N is rated at 90% multipass at 10 microns.
Bosch Premium is 98% at 15 micron single pass
93% at 15 micron multi-pass

Re: Anyone using a AC Deloc PF 58 filter. Better read this!
Has anyone tested the new Micro-Gard filters O'Reilly's is now carrying?? They are O'Reilly's new"house brand" and sell for around $2.50.
They are rated 96% in the SAE multi pass test (no Micron value given on the box). They have the same part numbers as the Purolator filters, but I don't know who makes them. They look excellent from the outside and peeking into the center hole.........anyone has any thoughts on these??

Yes Autozone carries the Bosch Filters along with Mobil, AC, Fram, and Dduesch(Sp?_. I beleive that the K&N filters that were mentioned earlier so if you try to get it from Autozone order it 2 days before you plan on changing.
I haven't seen a PF59 at our store yet. Are these a rather new filter or something?
