Battery Dead??? No Start
Symptoms,
1, Door Open, key in ignition, you get the chime.
2. Close Door, turn key, nothing happens but the seat belt light barely comes on, no other indications. Security light erratic as well (shouldn't be VATS). Kind of an intermittent chime when trying to start.
2.2 Fuel Pump sounds like it's trying
3. Speedo/Tach jump to max then die.
4. Battery gague looks like it's trying to get to 8v but that's a crap gage.
Meter to battery, reads 8-10v's with everything off. What is the cracking power supposed to be on the battery? Don't know how old the battery is.
Battery dead or low v's?

Uhh... anything below 11.8V is considered a toasted battery lol I would try a new battery but it can also be a bunch of other factors.. eg alternator, something draining the battery while the car is parked etc

What "popped" Did you get sparks from the battery terminals? That means you don't have good contact with the battery terminals. All you gotta do to clean them is get a wire brush and scrub em down and hopefully that's all the problem is

Help! #2
Cleaned the battery terminals with brush and some baking soda.
1. Started this time but ran AWFULLY rough @ idle. Put engine @ 1500 for about a minute. Let off the throttle, car died, but still got accessories and dash lightning.
2. Car started right up after that, idle normally for 2 minutes.
Same sequence as after I installed new battery this morning. hopefully nothing is draining the battery while off.
Mechanic lives next to me, he's saying that it could also be the alternator.
Any thoughts?? Also, how much is an alternator gonna cost me?

yea, seems to be. Started this morning right up, battery gague voltage @ 13-14v's during drive to work. Parked it all day, started right up after work this afternoon after being off for 9 hours. Drive home alright, battery voltage 13-14v again, so, cross fingers that it stays this way!!!
Thanks for your help again!
