Default Still can't find the rattle!!!

Well I have had a nasty rattle on my '98 Z for a few months now, but just cannot seem to find it! It sounds like it's coming from the rear underside of the car--a metallic rattle/clicking sound that is most noticeable during decelleration.

Things I have checked:

Cats (replaced one that I thought was the culprit, but wasnt)
Spare tire/jack
catback (unless it's something inside the muffler)
removed all heat shields (except for the ones covering the manifolds)
hatch
suspension parts (nothing's loose)

Could it be the rear-end or driveshaft? I am really at my wit's end with this thing

Pipe where it goes over the rear? Hard to find noises - beat on everything in sight with a rubber mallet with the suspension loaded.

check the rubber bushing where the torque arm connects at the trans, and check the U-Joints

Hey! I'm over here in Texas...run it by, and we can drink a beer or two, and have a look. Seriously, I hate trying to run those things down. My jack was giving me fits in both my car, and my daughter's Z28. I took everything out, and wrapped each item in paper towels and/or bath towels, and it worked.

OK, I electrical taped the O2 sensor covers, which were loose but not loud enough to be the main rattle. The trans and torque arm bushings were tight, and the exhuast piping looked to not be hitting any part of the underside of the car. The sway bar was also solid, though the metal-covered lines running along the axle (brakes? abs? not sure what they are) seemed to buzz when I tapped the sway bar with a mallet (not the right sound though, so I dont think that's it).

From the sound of tapping the exhaust at the y-pipe and cat, it really seems like the sound is coming from INSIDE the y-pipe. Is that possible? If so, what could be causing it?

Is the Y-pipe hiting the tunnel brace? You'd be suprised how far that pipe can move up and down when you romp on the gas.

But Id bet the problem comes from the suspension loding then unloading then loading agin in quick succession....

I too had nothing loose but discovered on my car that the rear springs were ratteling around on the lower perch..which has no isolator....and I had my Panhard bar installed in such a way that it would cause the most noise

Rubber hosed my springs (reverse hose mod) and turned my PHB around so thet the poly end was attached to the body Vs the rod end help a lot

Ive heard of also LCA's being very loose..crank on thoes even thoght they seem tight

Is your car lowered?
