Storing ls1 for 2 years?
Ok, heres the thing. I am not going to be able to drive my ls1 for 2 years and the only place i have to store it is outside. If i store it without driving or starting it for 2 years will it be alright? I'm even thinking of selling the car but i really do not want to. Is there anyone here that has stored their car for 2 years? Thanks

Man... your asking for problems with a car sitting out side..... sell it... that is if you have no other choice on storage... even inside and loosing 2 years of use I dunno... I may sell it if it were mine...

Look for a storage place that has units big enough to store a vehicle. If you cant, Id sell it. Better to sell now than to come back to it 2 years later and find it vandalised and beat up.

Finding a place to store it for two years would be expensive and not worth it. Storing it outside and not even being able to start it up and drive it around every once and a while seems to be asking for trouble. I agree that you could probably get a very similar car for a lot less in two years if you sell it now, and you would be able to sell your car for more now too.
But I'm with you in not wanting to sell my car if I was in that position.
As for what would happen to the car, if it was under a cover, no matter how good the cover is it will flap a little and wear down the paint. It will also hold in some moisture that is never good. If you don't have a cover, your paint will be really faded. And if any moisture is left in the engine or other stuff, it will start to rust it and cause some problems.

thanks for the replies guys. i dunno i still may keep it. i planed on getting a different motor, trans, and rear end installed in the car someday anyway. also i'm not worried to much about the appearance to much as i as performance so i think a little paint ware isnt a biggy.
is there anyone here that has had any problems after storing there car mechanically?

Fuel pump injectors battery, fuel line, tank, contamination, hydraulic section of the clutch if a manual, autos just dont like to sit that long.brake system it runs into big money right away you will not be able to come back in two years throw a battery at her fire it off and back to old times as normal. I think I'd unload it. It would be a wise decision and you would be money ahead.

If it has to be stored outside for that long I say forget about it, sale it! But if stored inside a garage, there is nothing wrong with storing it that long. Just go all the storing steps. The main things I would make sure I did are:
Remove the battery
Place the car on jack stands
Place moth *****(place them in a plastic bowl) and moisture packs inside car
Drain fuel tank
Drain oil
Just close doors to the first click, so weather striping will not be depressed
And still cover car with car cover!
And car should fire up with no problems after 2 years!

what he said except for one thing dont just drain the oil change it new filter everthing dont leave it sitting for two years with no oil in it, it wouldn't hurt it but after two years you could forget it has no oil when you or someone else goes to start it

Even after everything everyone has said, he still wants to keep it and store it. Asking for advice, receiving (a lot of) it, and then ignoring it is pretty ignorant. But hey, it's your car and your money, so feel free to waste it.

When not a single person says that you should keep it, for a multitude of reasons, and you are still asking for "other opinions," it tells me you've already decided you want to keep it, and just want others to validate your decision. However, no one agrees. If you still think it's a good idea to keep it, then like I said, enjoy wasting your money.
