Default car overheating

well this is the second time in 3 weeks my car has overheated.

when i drive teh car for long periods of time the car gets too hot and coolant starts spilling out of the overflow tank. so i had to refill the overflow and everything was good.

also my car warms up pretty fast. and it seems to run really hot as well.

whats going on here? could be that my rad might be clogged and its forcing it out of the overflow?

your thermostat may be clogged. Replace it and flush your radiator

make sure there are no obstructions in front of the radiator- like plastic bags and such, minimal air flow will make it get hot alot faster. my .02

vatozone should be able to order it for you...that is, if you can afford to sit around for 2 or 3 days waiting for it

start your car with the radiator cap off and make sure the water starts to flow. This rules out the t-stat and the water pump too. If the level goes down keep topping it off until its packed full. Rev it a bit with the cap off to see if the level goes down more so you can get more in there. This isn't to find that "water bubble" so many people talk about because I don't think that really happens, its to make sure it gets the pressure built up with the cap on and so the space doesn't create a vaccum and just suck from the overflow tank.

Make sure there's nothing inbetween the radiator and condensor.

Let the engine heat up and when the fans come on put your hand in front if each one and feel the air blowing, than turn on the A/C to max and see if both fans go on "high".

Maybe you need a new temp sensor. The brass colored sensor that screws into the side and the front of the drivers side head, right above the first spark plug.

check your oil level and pressure

Make sure your front air dam is still there and in good condition

Read this, it may help you even with low mileage. I battled an overheating problem for 1 year and noone on earth knew to do this.

I don't see how you need a new radiator with your mileage. If you see it flow with the cap off than your not clogged.

You wanna know what will fix it? I will tell you it is the radiator cap. Mine did the exact same thing when I had the factory cap. I went down to Autozone and got a Stant 18 PSI and problem was resolved. The radiator cap is not keeping the system pressurized when it gets hot. That means that water is boiling at a much lower temp which causes it to come out through the overfill. I change my radiator cap every year since I came into this problem. Matter of fact I just had this problem last week. Looked at the radiator cap and when I lifted up the pressure release lever the spring didn't move. So I bought another 7 dollar cap and problem solved. Change your cap and quit thinking about how to spend a bunch of money for something thats not at fault.

It ain't gonna be the cap, the factory cap is fine unless you actually see water squirting from the cap itself. If it holds the water its perfect.

Did you go through that whole list of things yet?

Also, take your A/C belt off and run around and see if it gets hot. Rule that and the pulleys out. Also, take the main belt off and make sure all accessories and pulleys spin freely. Long shot, but check anyway.

The factory caps do go bad so I don't even want to hear that. Check you belt to make sure it isn't slipping on the water pump pulley that would be one thing. Also take the car and blast the **** out of the radiator fins with a high PSI pressure washer. Then flush it. Thats what im about to do with mine just to get it cleaned out. Anybody know if you can leave the return radiator hose off to let it flush out the crap from the motor and radiator that way then just keep putting water in it?
