LS1 making a "ticking" sound at idle
my current LS1 and my other LS1 made a ticking sound. almost like a faint knock. im wondering if you guys with LS1s have the same thing at idle. it fades to regular engine sounds after driving for a while or after it gets around, say, 2500 rpm. i chalk it up as being normal but on some others i dont hear it and on some i do. anyone?

someone on another board said "notrious lifter knock?" im not a big gear head really but im just wondering if someone could explain what this entails and how it can be fixed if that were the problem. also what whould be damaged to cause the sound, this being the case, and is it something that must be fixed or just has a tick?

At one point mine started ticking, turned out to be a bad oil pump. This is not a problem you want so if in doubt get it checked out. If you leave a mysterious noise unattended it could just turn into needing a new engine.

my last LS1s new owner had a rebuild because of a "noisey/ collappsed lifter". if this is the case do you think its something i should have attended to right now or it wouldnt hurt anything until i get in there to do a cam/oil pump swap? that should be in the next 2-3 months.

Most LS1s make some sort of "sewing machine/ticking" type sound. Whether or not it's an issue really all depends on how loud it is. If it's just slightly noticeable, I wouldn't worry about it.
