Default Will your car runnig out of gas hurt anything?

Just wondering if your car runs out of gas or starts to run out of gas, will it hurt anything(ie fuel pump, engine?)?

Well its not good for the fuel pump thats for sure. Sometimes it can be hard to get restarted if you dry out the tank.

The car is fine. Just dont pull a DR and run it out of gas, unless you want an excuse to replace it.

I have run out of gas before and did not have to replace the fuel pump. It was a cool night so maybe that helped. I was idling when it happened.

If it just runs out of gas & dies then you're fine.....now if you keep trying to re-start after it dies, you'll spin that lil fuel pump to pieces and will be dropping the tank soon after.

The fuel pump relies on fuel moving through the pump to cool it. So you can see why trying to turn the fuel pump with no fuel can be dangerous, the pump will overheat and die. FYI.
