I have a strange revving problem

This started a few weeks ago.... When ever I get on it alittle bit... say 3500 RPM or higher and then either let off or shift the rpms continue to rise for a split second or longer. It feels like the throttle is sticking open but I checked the throttle return spring and it still has plenty of pressure to it. I also thought it might be some sort of vaccum problem, but I can't find any leaks. I took the TB off and cleaned it, but I still have the same problem. Could it be the electronic idle thing that sits above the Throttle position sensor?

Please Help.

do me a favor...i want you to check the hardware of the TB....go to the little bosch solenoid unit where the throttle/cruise cables come from...take the black top off and rotate the gears...take your bellow off and when you turn the gears all the way and let them go...see if the plate closes all by itself....this can give u an idea of wether is a electrical issue of the TB or just a hardware issue....check back

Ok... I think you are reffering to the "Fly by wire" servo.... I have a '98 so I don't have the fly by wire thing.... the TB is connected directly to the gas pedal. I had the TB off the other day, and cleaned it, and did test the plate.... it closes with no problems so maybe it is an electrical issue.

Could the problem be the solenoid that is on the top of the TB itself... It looks like it may control the inflow of air for the idle?

id check either of the two sensors on the right side of the tb...the tps and i cant remember the other right off hand...iac maybe

Yes it is an M6.... thanks everyone for the help... I will let you all know what I find out.... I think I will go have it scaned on Thursday.
