I don't know what to gap TR55's at anymore - their website says .044 now. Used to be .055 was recommended and they came close to .060. I'm going back to Denso's.

How long ago, just curious? Did they come gapped at .044? NGK used to say .050 for 98's and .060 for 99 and up on their site, which I never understood either. Gapped mine at .055 w/no problems a couple years ago, but wondering why they changed the TR55's gap. New ones come pregapped at .044.

Well, I'm going back to the original plugs that came with my car - Denso PTJ16R15's gapped at .060. Somethings going on with NGK changing the gap/plug? Apologize to the original poster, kinda got off-track.

Edit: Similar discussion from a couple days ago on the new TR55's - www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=645606

They probably come pregapped differently so they can be used on a wider range of vehicles. Maybe they're just trying to cut costs and have a pregap machine that gaps more of their plugs at 044, instead of several different machines

Anyway, been running mine at .050 for over a year, been fine the whole time.

Just saying NGK has changed their gap on the TR55's on their website for LS1's. Same part numbers but changed the gap from .060 to .044. Wondering what the difference is? Is the heat range the same?

I wouldn't gap anying wider than .050 for a bolt-ons car, .035 works well for H/C cars.

I LIKE THE NGK but refuse to use them because they are made in Japan. AC delco irridium or autolite platinums

Sent them an email, here's the response I got today: "The spark plug has not changed. TR55 will still be preset to .060. The reason for the change in recommended gap setting comes from a change at General Motors with the supplier for O.E. plugs. The new supplier builds the plugs to .044. We have changed our application data to match that of GM. If you have had good success at .060 install TR55 as it comes ouf of the box. Thank you."

Just thought I'd share...
