Default Anyone know how to depressurize hood struts?

Putting a new hood on the car next week, and there's a huge weight difference, but I can't figure out how to get lower resistance hood shocks... However, I've noticed that several individuals on e-bay offer to de-pressurize struts to accomodate lighter hoods, anyone know how this is done?

i really dont think that would be needed as long as you dont lift the hood and let it slam up and if you go to lower the hood the leverage point is in the same place so it wouldnt make it much more difficult to close than it is now

I seem to recall that there is a difference between struts of a SS vs Z28.
SS struts are a bit stronger for the added weight.
Give the dealer a call and see if they can shed some light.

I would think that would be reversed, since SS hood is fiberglass, and Z is steel... Am I wrong? Advance lists the same struts for both, guess I'll call the dealer.

Heat em with a torch on soft blue flame. Seriously though no need to decharge just open the hood pop the clips and take off the old ones and install the new ones. With the hood open they are fully extended and you will be safe. Just do it one side at a time.

hahaha, there should be a lb rating on the shock, depending on the weight difference in hoods, change the lb rating to a lower one. Id say the peg leg idea(altho sounding like YOU may be wably with only 1 prop leg!) should work also

I drilled two small holes about an inch or so above the bottom end of the strut and bled all the crap out. Now when I open my hood I just pop a pin in the holes that I drilled and it is fine. You could also drill holes at different increments to have the hood open at different levels. Not my cup of tea but whatever tickles yer pickle.
