Default Flush transmission? 9 year old firebird but with low miles

Hello everyone,

I just bought a 1998 Firebird Formula. It has 55,000 miles on it and I have some questions about flushing the manual transmission. I have done a search and understand that flushing a car with many miles on it can be a risk. My question is does time effect when a transmission should be flushed? The car is 9 years old now but does not have too many miles on it. Would I be putting my transmission at risk if I flushed it now? It has never been flushed before and right now I am thinking about just changing the fluids and filter. Thanks for your help.

go find my thread a few pages back. do your maintence. if it is really that far gone that a routine miatence procedure causes problems then it needed tob e replaced anyway. I'd shoot the ****** idiot who came up with the idea of dont flush it out. Just remember to change your filter when you do flush it

If its a MANUAL tranny, a fluid drain and refill will do the trick, regardless of milage, its only in an AUTO tranny where problems may arise. With the manuals, its an easy change that you can do at any time

filter should just drop down out of the bottom, id kinda be on the iffy side of changin your fluid though....even with low miles, fluid still breaks down over time...esp 9 years....besides just changing fluid in a A4 without flushing it will just add to the problem, theres about 10 quarts of fluid in autos....youd only be changin 3-4 without a flush....old fluid+new fluid=bad things

there is no filter for a manual tranny... just unscrew drain and refill.... i would also remove the fill screw before i drain out the fluid... just to be on the safe side

It is gear oil for a manual and fluid for an auto.

usually red, makes it easy to tell when somethings going wrong with your tranny...not real hard to miss red spots on the ground, along with when a A4 is going out or the fluids bad, itll turn brown...and smell like ***
