oil pump died?????!!!!!!!!!!

oil pump died?????!!!!!!!!!!

So I get in the car to go to lunch when I noticed the oil guage was pointed at zero and the check guages light is on. Anybody hear of any sudden failures in the oil system. My engine has around 10k on it. I even bought a new ported version and have never seen zero oil pressure. At first I thought my sender died but the lifters started ticking! So I cut it off. Theres no oil on the ground and there is oil on the dipstick. I'm dragging it home tonight and other than pulling the oil pump is there anything else I can check?

So it was the new ported pump that did this? Wow.

There were a very small percentage of stock LS1 pumps in the '98-'00 model years that failed randomly. But that is pretty rare. However that should not apply to you if you bought a new pump that's been reworked/ported.

Maybe whoever reassembled your pump after porting it messed something up?

Its odd the scoggin dickey banner is showing now as thats where is came from. Is there a spring in them or something? Maybe something I can fix instead of paying for a new pump and waiting for it to come in. I didnt pay much attention when I put it in.

is the pick up tube reattached right?...did you crimp the o-ring?....did it come with a spring?

I just got the timing cover off this morning and the pickup tube is still attached, it couldn't be that easy. Its just strange how it was fine for the trip to work and died the next time I started it. I should be able to finish getting the pump off tomorrow.

Took the pump to the machine shop and it turns out there was stuff in the bypass, holding it open. If its not raining tomorrow I'll get it back in. Anybody else have this problem?
