Default '99 Temp Guage - Common Problem?

Ever since ive had my car the temperature guage has always been at the exact same place on the guage. Sitting at 210F mark precisely. I know cars are suppose to be sitting at certain temperatures however Ive driven my car in the boiling hot and simmering cold, and have been on 6hour drives and never has my guage ever moved from that position. The only times is when she is off or 1 to 2 minutes of warming up. I have then found this quote from CamaroSource.ca. Im wondering if anyone knows how to fix this?

Why does my temp gauge constantly read around 210 degrees regardless if my 1999 F-body is moving or sitting still?
Although this hasn't been proved by a TSB, most people with 1999 LS1 F-bodies appear to have a problem with the temperature meter that makes it constantly read 210. If you run an Autotap on that car, you will see the temperature correctly displayed, so the problem must only be with the gauge, and not the computer. The 1998s don't appear to have this problem

1998 is the only year that it reads accurately. 1999-2002 have the dummy gauge that sits at 210 the whole time. Nothing wrong with it, though. You don't fix it...if you want more accuracy, you can get an aftermarket gauge.

you can get some decent aftermarket gauges that wouldnt be that hard to hide in say a vent or something where nobody else would see it but you could still thenmonitor the temp.

the gauge will move. but only if you are in the process of over heating which is stupid.

i had an air pocket form in my radiator hose and my engine started over heating and after an engine light came on i noticed my temp gauge was all the way over lol. and after i squeezed the hose and got the air pocket out and started driving. the gauge slowly creeped back to 210

Here is a nice little gauge that connects to the OBD2 port and scans like 24 different parameters directly from the PCM. You can display two items at a time and you can also read DTC's and clear them out. You can put it in a single A pillar gauge pod and not have to wire anything just plug it in. I love mine but it is a little pricey at a little over $200.

AeroForce Technology makes them and sells thru distributors. I got mine from New Era Performance who is a site sponsor.

I had a lower radiator hose blow off since I didn't fasten the hose clamp on and the guage did start to go up - obviously I shut her down, but it does work when starting to overheat as was stated.

It just plugs into the OBD2 port and scans the different parameters, coolant temp, trans temp, intake air temp, long and short fuel trims, 02 sensor switching voltage, throttle position voltage, etc, etc....since we have functional oil press gauges it wont read that. it shouldnt mess with a custom tune at all. You cant 'change' anything with it just view what the PCM is reading.

I will give you fair warning that the gauge can be very distracting while you are driving...............................because you will constantly be messing with it and changing the items you want to see and not watching where you are going
